Starting at BWPS

Starting school is a very exciting time, for both children and parents. We understand that making the right decision for your child is very important. At Boronia West, we pride ourselves on providing a happy, safe learning environment for all our students. We encourage parents to book in for a personal school tour with our Acting Principal, Jennie Brown. Call and arrange a time- 9762 2510.

OUR TRANSITION PROGRAM
We are very proud of our “Step Into Prep” transition program. This program begins in October and runs for 5 consecutive weeks. During these 2.5 hour sessions in the classroom, pre-schoolers have a great opportunity to get to know the school facilities, play areas, their classroom, school routines, classmates and teachers, including the specialist Art, Music and Sport teachers.

The Pre-Schoolers' Transition Program at Boronia West Primary consists of the following school experience events:

Session 1 - Meg, Mog and Mask-making (My classroom, my school) - Wednesday 18th October from 9:30am to 12 noon
Session 2 - Let's get physical! (Visual Arts) - Tuesday 24th October from 9:30am to 12 noon
Session 3 - What can I make (Performing Arts) - Thursday 2nd November from 9:30am to 12 noon
Session 4 - Sing and dance and have some fun! (Physical Education) Friday 10th November from 9:30am to 12 noon
Session 5 - Teddy bears' picnic (with Year 5/6 buddies) Wednesday 15th November from 9:30am to 12 noon

NOTE: Parent Information Evening will be held on 22nd November from 5:45 to 6:30pm.

In a fun and stimulating environment, we aim to build the children’s confidence and help them develop a sense of belonging. On starting school next year, the Transition Program continues via a carefully structured process enabling our new Preppies to settle into school routines in a relaxed and happy manner, with a growing sense of self confidence and independence. There were NO tears on the first day this year....well perhaps just a few from some sentimental Mums and Dads!

BIG BUDDIES, LITTLE BUDDIES
Our prep and grade 6 buddy program really helps our new students settle in and feel welcome. We love it when the big buddies come to help us in our classroom and they look out for us out in the yard too!

BEGINNING (DATE)

Parents are asked to bring their child to the classroom at 9:00am where their teacher will greet them.

Other arrangements remain the same as for the first day

During the first weeks at school, your child will be introduced to all areas of the school, especially the area where Prep children play until they are more used to being at school.

The Preps should be finishing their lunch by 1:00pm.  Your child must be picked up from the classroom at this time.  PLEASE BE ON TIME!

During Term 1, our school's Prep Entry Literacy & Numeracy Assessment Program will operate providing the initial steps in a schedule of ongoing monitoring and assessment that spans The Early Years Prep-4 at Boronia West Primary School.

To overcome the build up of fatigure that occurs when children first begin school, they will have Wednesdays free of school for the month of February.  Your child will only be required at school on Wednesday of his/her Literacy & Numeracy Assessment (for approx 60 Minutes) the date and time of which you will be notified on your child's first day at school.

A FULL DAY 9:00AM-3:30PM FOR ALL PREPS BEGINS ON <DATE> ONWARDS (EXCLUDING WEDNESDAYS IN FEBRUARY)

BEGINNING (DATE)

School begins at 9:00am.  Please bring your child directly to the Prep line up area on the oval side of the school where they can line up with their classmates.

Children are dismissed at 3:30pm.  Please collect your child directly from the classroom until the end of this week by which time you should have organised a place in the yard where your child can meet you each day.

Don't forget that there is no school for Preps on Wednesdays in February except for their allocated assessment hour.
